Item

Mop

Updated:

Cleaning implement — removes Slime puddles (the only weapon class that works on Slime). Free from Utility Closet.

Overview

Mop is the dedicated Slime counter. Per the Slime enemy entry, no other weapon class works on Slime — Gun, Taser, and Fire Extinguisher are all ineffective. Only the Mop clears the viscous puddle. This makes the Mop mission-critical when Slime is in the patient flow path, since walking through untreated Slime drains sanity and slows movement.

The item is free from the Utility Closet, available throughout the shift. The limitation documented in AH is that it needs regular cleaning/refilling at the sink — multi-Slime-encounter shifts compound the maintenance cost.

Confidence note: AH JSON marks this entry as 'uncertain' on the secondary 'fake anomaly identification' use. The primary use (Slime cleanup) is verified via cross-reference to the Slime enemy entry.

Effect & Mechanics

  • Removes Slime puddles (only weapon class that works)
  • Identifies 'fake' anomalies by cleaning up residue (unverified)
  • Requires regular cleaning/refilling at the sink
  • Free from Utility Closet

When to Use vs Skip

Pros

  • Active Slime puddle blocking patient flow path
  • Pre-emptive cleanup before patient/staff needs to cross the area
  • Emergency cleanup during cross-hospital event chains where Slime is in the way

Cons

  • Slime puddle is in a non-critical area — route around if movement isn't blocked
  • Active hostile encounter — drop Mop for weapon or treatment item first

How to Use This Item

Pull Mop from the Utility Closet. Apply to a Slime puddle to clear it — single application per puddle. After multiple uses, return to a sink to clean/refill the mop before continuing.

For multi-Slime shifts: time the cleanup workflow around the sink-refill cost. A drained mop is non-functional until refilled. Plan refill stops between Slime encounters rather than during them.

For Slime specifically: per the Slime enemy entry, no other weapon class works (Gun/Taser/Fire Extinguisher all ineffective). Mop is mandatory for Slime clearing. If you don't have a Mop in inventory and Slime appears, route to the Utility Closet to grab one before attempting cleanup.

Secondary use note: AH documentation suggests Mop can identify 'fake' anomalies by cleaning up residue, but this is marked as unverified. Treat as speculative pending in-game observation.

Patch History

No documented balance changes to Mop mechanics. AH JSON confidence flag is 'uncertain'.

Cleanup tool, not a weapon

Mop is the dedicated counter for the Slime environmental hazard. Per the Destructoid walkthrough: "clear by holding E" with the Mop. There's no documented combat utility — Mop doesn't work on Skinwalker, Hiders, or any active hostile.

When to carry one

Mop is a situational pickup, not a default carry. Slime spawns are random; if you haven't seen a Slime puddle in the current shift, leaving the Mop in the cabinet is fine. The opportunity cost of carrying a one-use environmental cleanup item in a permanent inventory slot is higher than the cost of fetching one on demand.

The exception is shifts where you've already cleaned one Slime — that's a signal Slime is in rotation, and a second spawn is more likely.

What happens if you skip it

Walking through Slime untreated drains sanity and slows movement. Neither is fatal alone, but in transit-pressure shifts (ambulance waves, multiple emergencies stacking), a Slime puddle between rooms can compound with other timers. The few seconds saved by skipping cleanup are usually worse than the few seconds spent doing it.
