Shop Upgrade
+1 Carry Capacity
Updated:
Adds 1 inventory slot — moves you from the 3-slot baseline to 4. $100 Animal Coins, post-Shift 3.
Overview
+1 Carry Capacity is the brute-force throughput upgrade. Per Fandom: $100 Animal Coins, moves you from the 3-slot inventory baseline to 4 slots. Persistent for the rest of the run. The fourth slot is a meaningful expansion — one more pre-staged treatment per cabinet round-trip, one more sanity item in reserve, one more Maple Syrup ready for a Bed Monster encounter.
Best value for classes whose passive doesn't already address inventory pressure — Intern (no inventory perk), Doctor (no inventory perk), Surgeon (no inventory perk). Less critical if you're already on Head Nurse (ships with +3 slots baseline at Base Level) or Nurse (Level 3 adds +3 slots). On those classes, +1 Carry Capacity stacks on top, but the marginal value of the fourth-or-fifth slot is smaller than the second.
Video Guide
What This Upgrade Does
- Adds 1 inventory slot to the player's baseline carry capacity
- Baseline 3 slots → 4 slots after purchase
- Persistent across shifts in the same run
- Stacks with class-specific inventory bonuses (Nurse, Head Nurse)
Cost vs Value Analysis
Pros
- ✓ Cheap unlock cost ($100) — pays back in 1-2 cabinet round-trips saved
- ✓ Stacks with class-specific inventory bonuses (Nurse Level 3, Head Nurse Base Level)
- ✓ Persistent across shifts — buy once, benefit forever in the same run
- ✓ Improves every other throughput upgrade indirectly (more slots = more pre-staging headroom)
Cons
- ✗ Diminishing returns past 5 slots — the marginal value of each extra slot decreases
- ✗ On Head Nurse class (+3 baseline), the upgrade is redundant for most shifts
- ✗ Doesn't help if you're not actively running multi-room treatment loops
- ✗ $100 competes with other Shift 3+ priorities (Faster Computers, Patient Recovery)

When to Buy This Upgrade
Buy on Shift 3 or 4 if your class lacks an inventory perk (Intern, Doctor, Surgeon, Paramedic, Security, Psychologist, Secret Agent). The cabinet round-trip savings pay back the $100 cost within 1-2 shifts of normal play.
Delay or skip if you're playing Nurse (Level 3 adds +3 slots cheaper) or Head Nurse (+3 slots from Base Level). On those classes, the marginal fourth slot from this upgrade is less impactful than spending the $100 elsewhere.
For maximum stacking: Nurse Level 3 (+3) + Carry Capacity (+1) = 7-slot total inventory. That's overkill for most shifts but useful for late-game team-supply-runner roles.
For cost-optimisation: this is the cheapest inventory upgrade available. If you're saving toward a bigger purchase (Patient Recovery $115, DNA Analysis $110, Faster Computers $110), prioritise Carry Capacity first as a small upgrade that compounds with everything else.

Frequently Asked Questions
- $100 Animal Coins per Fandom. The cheapest inventory-related upgrade in the supplies shop.
- 4 slots (3-slot baseline + 1). Stacks with class bonuses — Nurse Level 3 + this upgrade = 7 total slots.
- Marginal value. Head Nurse starts with +3 slots at Base Level, so the +1 from this upgrade is the fourth-or-fifth slot. Better to spend the $100 elsewhere on Head Nurse.
- No — persistent for the rest of the run. Buy once, benefit forever in the same playthrough.
- Classes without an inventory perk: Intern, Doctor, Surgeon, Paramedic, Security, Psychologist, Secret Agent. The +1 slot has highest marginal value on these classes.
- Per Fandom, the upgrade is listed once in the supplies shop rotation. Specific multi-purchase behaviour isn't documented — treat as one-shot until further verified.
- Shift 3 onwards, alongside the Supplies Shop unlock. The shop rotates 3 random items per shift, so availability isn't guaranteed on a specific shift.
