Animal Hospital (Main Map)

Updated:

The hospital itself — overview area routing patients through check-in, treatment wings, and emergency response.

Overview

Animal Hospital (Main Map) isn't a numbered treatment room — it's the parent overview that ties every other room together. The Lobby, Check-in Room, Medical Wing (Rooms 1-5 in the right corridor), Emergency Wing (Rooms 6, 7, 8 in the left corridor), and Staff Only Room all sit inside this map. This entry is the orientation page for the building itself; the per-room entries cover the specialised treatment minigames and unique hazards inside each one.

The Main Map's role is routing rather than direct treatment. Patients enter via the Lobby, get processed at the Check-in Room, then get triaged into the appropriate Wing based on their diagnostic profile. Cross-room events like the Ambulance Event (Shift 4+, recurring every 5 shifts per /wiki/events/ambulance-event) and Fire in Room (/wiki/events/fire-in-room) play out across this space — the Main Map is where you make the macro-level decisions about which patient goes where.

Layout & Features

  • Two wings: Medical (right corridor, Rooms 1-5) + Emergency (left corridor, Rooms 6-8)
  • Lobby + Check-in Room at the front (entrance area)
  • Staff Only Room for restricted-access NPCs (Dr. Harlow retreats here)
  • Cross-wing event handling (Ambulance, Fire, Monster Emerging)
  • Patient triage and routing baseline workflow

Best Use vs Risks

Pros

  • Quick overview when navigating multi-event shifts
  • Triage decisions for Ambulance Event 6-patient surges
  • Cross-wing routing during cascade emergencies (fire spreads / monster-emerging)

Cons

  • No direct treatment equipment — pure routing space
  • Ambulance Events concentrate 6+ patients here simultaneously per /wiki/events/ambulance-event
  • Cross-room cascade events (fire spreads from one room to neighbours) can wipe entire wings

Procedures Performed Here

Main Map procedures are macro-level routing decisions rather than per-patient treatment. The standard workflow: a patient arrives via the Lobby, gets processed at the Check-in Room (see /wiki/rooms/check-in-room for the intake/anomaly-detection workflow), then routes to either the Medical Wing for standard DNA-and-diagnostics or the Emergency Wing for specialised minigame-gated treatment.

During Ambulance Events (starting Shift 4 per /wiki/events/ambulance-event), 6+ patients arrive simultaneously and the Main Map becomes the triage stage — burning patients first, Critical Patient timer cases second, stable admissions last. Dr. Harlow's between-shift dialogue often happens in or near the Main Map (see /wiki/npcs/dr-harlow for the unlock progression).

No specialised tools are kept in the Main Map itself — items live at the Check-in Room's table, treatment cabinets in each wing, and the Supplies Shop unlocking at Shift 3. The Main Map is a navigation layer; the procedural work happens in the connected rooms.

Patch History

Main hospital layout has been stable since the 2026-05-10 launch. The Wing-based structure (Medical right, Emergency left) and front-of-house arrangement (Lobby + Check-in) have not changed across documented updates through 2026-06-28.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Main Map a treatment room?
No — it's the overview/routing layer that ties together the specific treatment rooms. Treatment procedures happen in the numbered rooms (1-8) and at the Check-in Room; the Main Map handles patient triage and cross-wing routing.
What rooms are connected to the Main Map?
Lobby, Check-in Room, Medical Wing (Rooms 1-5 — currently documented as a unified wing in AH content), Emergency Wing (Rooms 6, 7, 8 as individual entries), and Staff Only Room.
Where do Ambulance Event patients arrive?
Via the Lobby into the Main Map. The 6-patient surge starting Shift 4 distributes across available rooms — see /wiki/events/ambulance-event for the surge-handling workflow.
Can fires spread between rooms in the Main Map?
Cross-wing cascade events including fire spread are documented in /wiki/events/fire-in-room. The Main Map is where you manage cascade containment.
Where is Dr. Harlow during shifts?
Dr. Harlow retreats between shifts to the Staff Only Room per /wiki/npcs/dr-harlow. He appears in the Main Map during the active shift to deliver dialogue and unlock features (Shifts 1-7).
Is the Medical Wing a separate entity?
Not in current AH content — Rooms 1-5 in the Medical Wing are documented as a unified wing space rather than per-room entries. Only the Emergency Wing (Rooms 6, 7, 8) has individual room entries.
When does the Main Map first become accessible?
Shift 1 — the Main Map is the player's spawn environment from the opening shift. Specific wings/rooms unlock progressively per Dr. Harlow's between-shift dialogue (Supplies Shop and Emergency Wing rooms open at Shift 3).
What's the difference between Main Map and Lobby?
Lobby is the entrance area specifically — where players spawn and Ambulance Event patients arrive. Main Map is the entire hospital overview that contains the Lobby plus all other rooms. Lobby is one room inside the Main Map.
