Eye Drops

Updated:

Pacifies Mass of Eyes (Roof Monster) — application itself costs some sanity. Also a Death Ritual cancel option.

Overview

Eye Drops is the pacification counter for the Mass of Eyes encounter. Per AH documentation, applying Eye Drops to the Mass of Eyes makes the entity 'friendly' for the encounter — it stops the sanity drain. The catch: the application itself takes a few moments during which the drain is still active, so you'll lose 8-15 sanity in the process even on a clean application.

Secondary use: Eye Drops is one of three documented Death Ritual cancel options (alongside Coffee and IV Bag). The cancellation interrupts the ritual and saves the patient.

The primary play for Mass of Eyes is still avoidance (camera-down, finish non-ceiling tasks) per cross-source verification — the avoidance approach is documented by Sportskeeda and Destructoid while the Eye Drops pacification is only documented by YouTube walkthroughs. Use Eye Drops when you must clear the ceiling for a task and avoidance isn't possible.

Video Guide

Effect & Mechanics

  • Pacifies Mass of Eyes — entity becomes friendly for the encounter
  • Stops the sanity drain from Mass of Eyes
  • Application itself costs 8-15 sanity (drain continues during application window)
  • Cancel option for Death Ritual event (alongside Coffee and IV Bag)
  • Single-use per application

When to Use vs Skip

Pros

  • Mass of Eyes encounter when a task requires upward camera angle (avoidance not possible)
  • Death Ritual event when Coffee and IV Bag are unavailable
  • Pre-loaded inventory for Shift 2+ where Mass of Eyes encounters become frequent

Cons

  • Mass of Eyes encounter with no upward-task requirement — use camera-down avoidance instead (zero sanity cost)
  • Player sanity is below 30% — the 8-15 sanity application cost may push you to dangerous levels

How to Use This Item

Pull Eye Drops from the Med-cart in the Surgery Room. Approach the Mass of Eyes (carefully — limit upward camera time to minimum), apply. The Mass of Eyes becomes pacified for the encounter — drain stops, the entity becomes friendly until natural despawn.

Manage the application sanity cost: the 8-15 sanity loss during application is unavoidable. Pre-application, ensure your sanity has headroom (above 50% ideally). If you're below 30% sanity already, use Coffee or Chocolate first to buffer before committing.

For Death Ritual cancellation: Eye Drops is one of three options (Coffee, Eye Drops, IV Bag). Coffee is fastest; Eye Drops costs sanity during application; IV Bag has setup overhead. Use whatever's closest to hand.

Cross-source caveat for Mass of Eyes: Sportskeeda and Destructoid document camera-down avoidance as the primary counter. Only YouTube walkthroughs document Eye Drops pacification. Both are real but if you're optimizing for cross-source-confirmed play, default to camera-down avoidance and use Eye Drops only when avoidance isn't possible.

Patch History

No documented balance changes to Eye Drops mechanics. The cross-source documentation gap (Sportskeeda/Destructoid vs YouTube walkthroughs) has been consistent.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Eye Drops do?
Pacifies the Mass of Eyes encounter — makes the entity friendly for the duration and stops the sanity drain. Also one of three Death Ritual cancel options.
How much sanity does Eye Drops application cost?
8-15 sanity during the application window (the Mass of Eyes drain continues until the pacification completes). Plan for the cost before committing.
Should I use Eye Drops or avoidance for Mass of Eyes?
Camera-down avoidance is the cross-source-confirmed primary play (Sportskeeda + Destructoid). Use Eye Drops only when a task requires upward camera angle and avoidance isn't possible.
Where do I get Eye Drops?
Med-cart in the Surgery Room. Cost 8 (Animal Coins, per AH documentation).
Can Eye Drops cancel a Death Ritual?
Yes — one of three documented cancel options (Coffee, Eye Drops, IV Bag). Eye Drops has the sanity cost during application; Coffee is fastest; IV Bag has setup overhead.

A treatment item with a contested combat use

Eye Drops have two documented roles:

The combat use comes from community YouTube walkthroughs and isn't documented by every peer wiki. The Sportskeeda + Destructoid guides describe Mass of Eyes as a camera-down avoidance encounter without mentioning Eye Drops. Both approaches are documented somewhere; the camera-down baseline is the safer cross-source-confirmed counter.

The Death Ritual third use

Per Techwiser events guide, Eye Drops is one of three consumables (alongside IV Drops and Coffee) that can be applied to candles in the Death Ritual event to wake the patient and cancel the ritual. This is an underused option — most players default to the 7-candle removal or the defibrillator counter.

If you're already carrying Eye Drops for Dried Eyes, the Death Ritual fallback is essentially free.

Carrying calculus

Eye Drops aren't worth a permanent inventory slot if Dried Eyes patients are rare in your shift rotation. The triple-use (treatment + Mass of Eyes + Death Ritual) makes them more valuable to carry than a pure single-condition item like Bandages or Cough Syrup.
